Israel... part 1

Oh blog! How I have neglected thee! There will be no more of this. We bought a keypad for our ipads and I can now blog anytime and anyplace. This means that it will be much faster to blog and I can write shorter and more frequent blogs. But first I must catch up and that means telling you all about our amazing experience in Israel. There will be a lot of pictures and this may take a few blog entries. So get yourself comfy and I will begin.....
We left Calgary on February 14, how romantic am I for planning it like that? Our bags were packed and I was beyond excited for this trip.
I thought it was very neat to see how many different kinds of money we had. Canadian (It is the best money!), British pound for our 10 hour layover, American because that is what they use at all of the tourist places in Israel and the Israeli shekels.
While on the plane we found a map of London, England and started mapping out the route of what we wanted to see and do. Tim thought we should just take a taxi to the city center but that was crazy expensive! He said, "But in China they are super cheap!!." Sorry honey, in England they charge more just because they can! Around $20 got us 2 all day passes on the tube (don't forget to mind the gap!). Making it through customs was a bit of an ordeal because they questioned us thoroughly and looked through each page of our passport. On our way out we could the trainer say, "I think they are safe to go"
Tim doubted that I would be able to navigate us to all of the sites and due to his American ways assumed that we would never be able to make it to all the destinations on the list. Good news is that everything is super close and easily with in walking distance.
I couldn't deny Tim this classic photo!
Buckingham Palace

Picadilly Circus

Big Ben

Wesminster Abbey
We then headed back to the airport and excitedly boarded the plane to Israel.
Once in Israel I was too afraid to leave the airport so I made Tim sit in the airport until our tour group arrived. Only about a mere 6 hours! We played a lot of ticket to ride on the iPad.

We found a tour group from Utah, asked if they were the Mormon Heritage Group and they assured us that they were so we boarded the bus. As they started doing a head count the tour guide realized that they had a few extras... and that was us! oops! We dashed off the bus because we new our real tour group had to be close. Good thing that a member of our real tour group lost her luggage or the bus may have left us!
First stop: Joppa This is where Jonah left on a ship bound for Tarshish but never made it as he was swallowed by a whale!

The view from our first hotel was beyond amazing!

Day 2: We started by going to Caesarea. King Herod the Great built this magnificent port city. The Apostle Paul was a prisoner here for 2 years. Caesarea was also the site of some of the most horrific crusader battles with the Muslims. The moat and some ruins of what was once a huge Crusader fortress still remain.

This is the place where someone like Pilate would sit to watch the plays.
The above stone proves Pontius Pilate's existence. Prior to this archeological discovery, there was no proof.

Netanya Academic School is the Center for Strategic Dialogue, which Sponsors the House of Joseph/House of Judah Dialogue Center. The late Dr. Joseph Ginat, a for University of Utah professor and Israeli architect, was on the faculty at the college and facilitated many conversations between Jewish and Mormon scholars. During his time at the University of Utah, Dr. Ginat learned of Orson Hyde's visit to the Holy Land in 1841 and his dedication of the land for the return of the Jews. Dr. Ginat, an advisor to Golda Meir and other Israeli prime ministers, worked hard to ensure that the story of Orson Hyde was told in Israel's schools' history  books. Dr. Ginat headed the effort to develop the Orson Hyde Square at Netanya Academic College. The Square features an olive tree planted to honour each of the modern prophets of the LDS Church.

These palm trees were planted, one for Orson Hyde, and all those who have followed him in dedicating the land for the return of the Jews. i

These graves gave the LDS church proof that they were in Israel pre-1948 when Israel became an independent state and proclaimed that no new religions would be allowed to be established in the land.

The Baha’i gardens were absolutely stunning. They believe that God reveals universal truths through all religions and that all prophets were sent by God to preach the same message.
After this picture was taken some girls got on each others shoulders to get an orange from a near by tree.... the laugh was good but they did get in trouble and it wasn't even worth it because the orange was super sour! Oranges at a hotel in Jerusalem were just about on crack they were so good! I don't know what happened to that poor orange!

Mt. Carmel is where Joshua had his duel with the priests of Baal. Mt. Carmel also looks out over Armageddon.

Church of the Annunciation is the traditional site where Mary received her visit from the Angel Gabriel. The first floor is rather plain to represent Mary's modesty and humility. The second floor is decorated with many elaborate mosaics and paintings and represents Mary's glory.

Many different countries donated painting/murals/sculptures on how they viewed Mary.
We definitely had to get pictures with Canada and China.

The inside of the steeple is like an inverted lily; a lily signifies virginity.

After teaching his first sermon, Jesus was rejected and his life was threatened. The traditional mountain from which the people sought to cast him is today called the Mount Precipitation. From here Jesus could see all of the Old Testament lands in front of him and as he stood on the precipice which overlooks the entire Jezreel Valley which separates Gaalilee to the north and Samaria to the south.
I loved the olive trees planted everywhere.

Everything in Between

This is picture is one of my personal favourites. Wrigley is such a stinky puppy but we love him anyways.
Due to the snow Wrigley was getting snow stuck in his paws and didn't like it so we tried out the boots he got from Mom's garage sale!
The Dudley's came to visit. We hit up chicken on the way and it was awesome!

Love this little girl!

Tim is trying to relive his junior high years so he bought Monopoly: Lord of the Rings version! I don't really enjoy monopoloy but I did like this. I killed Tim in one of the games. The best part is that every time you roll the all seeing eye (which is actually just a 1) the ring moves around the board and once the ring has gone all the way around, the game is over. This way the game doesn't last FOREVER!

I made some of Erin's enchilada's for Tim. He always says but they taste so much better when you do it! Blah! Blah! Blah! This is how they turned out...
We bought an exercise bike because we are trying to be a little bit more healthy. We both died when we rode it.
Super puppy! I love this little dog. We continue to go on regular walks to the dog park and he snuggles me after a night shift. He turned 1 on January 28. We gave him a big pile of hamburger and he downed it in seconds.

End of Fantasy Football and Super Bowl

Well good for me and sad for Tim but football has come to end! First off Tim won in our fantasy football league!! Sooo exciting buuuut this means that I got second and lost to him in the final! Seriously?!?! My team did so awesome for every game except when I played Tim. I am sad but I think I will put a little more effort in and see if I can win next year. Good job and congratulations Timmy!
The 49'ers made it to the super bowl this year and that is very exciting because they are Tim's favourite team and let's just say Tim's teams never do all that awesome. Originally, Tim told me that we weren't allowed to have a super bowl party because he needed to focus and a party would cause too many distractions. I love him but I ignored him and had a party anyways. Tim was ok with this and did enjoy it. We had lots of people and lots of treats for the occasion.
Tim started out calm and enjoying the game. Soon the 49'ers started losing and did not have a good first half. So when Beyonce rocked the stage at half time, Tim left to play dominion.
In the second half the lights in the stadium went out and somehow managed to light a fire under the 49'ers. They started a come back! This brought Tim back into the room and he was super excited and very very nervous.
I know you are all worried about me. It is ok. I was fine during the game!
The 49'ers had a chance but unfortunately they weren't able to pull through. Poor Tim. Oh well, maybe better luck next year? Or maybe the Jazz will win.... Oh I love him!

Happy New Year!

Again I know that I am still behind in blogging but slowly I will catch up.
We started off by the night by heading over to the Wright's for some delicious hot pot! mmm! After 2 1/2 years of being in this family I am slowly starting to enjoy the different culture that they bring into my life. I enjoy the meat and the baby corn that you can throw in! I know what you are all thinking... wow you are sooo white! I know I will always love meat and potatoes but I at least I am willing to try. We also played lots of games. Tim loves chess and loves the challenge and strategy it brings. He was actually on the chess team in high school!
I learned how to play mahjong and eventually won a game! I am very proud of myself because you have to know some characters. Tim drew me up a cheat sheet and I was able to sort of figure it out.
We then headed over to the Goldthorpe's for more food and games! The boys are currently addicted to playing dominion. I enjoy dominion but not all of the crazy expansion sets. I enjoy a simple game and can't figure out how to build the cool combinations they do.
We always look forward to this get together because it is so fun to see new and old faces. The party grows each year with new wives, fiancees and babies. I also enjoy the fire and burning a piece with something written on it that we don't like or don't want to bring into the new year.
We love you all and look forward to another year! Thanks for all you do. Tim and I appreciate you. To those of you who missed the party, please come and visit because we miss you or we will try to visit you!

What the Christmas??

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know it is March but I have to stay in order so I MUST blog about Christmas as it was truly wonderful and then the other happpening so that I can finally catch up.
This is our Christmas tree. We decorate the tree at the end of November so that we can enjoy doing it together. If we don't decorate it in November then Tim gets too busy with school and we barely have any time to just celebrate and have fun. Each year we buy each other a new ornament. Tim got me another Taylor Swift guitar and I got him a little lego man. It is fun to add to our Christmas stock every year. I love Christmas and hope to one day have it exploding in our house.

We celebrated Christmas a few days early with the Wright's by going out for dinner and then opened presents!
David made us new scarves!
Chrissy got a puzzle and a super cute new sweater!

After a Wright Christmas, I worked a few more shifts and then we headed down south for a Wilde Christmas! The party had already begun when we got there and it pretty much never stopped.
Tim loves presents because his Grammie always spoiled him rotten so now he loves to spoil the neices and nephews. We gave the kids the first round of presents because they had a million. These were from the dollar store and only made it through a few nights of playing but they were still really fun

We played A LOT of mario cart. Tim of course took this picture because he always won. Cohen loves the wii and Santa loves him enough to bring him a wii of his own.

We utilized the number of iphones to keep the kids busy. Cocoa and Quinny could play on these all day. Mason lost interest a little bit faster.
I had the job of organizing theNativity pageant so we dug through the dress up box and found my mom's wedding dress. Tannis wore it to be the star and it was definitely a hit. We coudn't stop there so we tried on our old dresses. We definitely rocked them. Side note: Erin is a couple months preggo in this pic! Nic work at fitting into it!
Our mother was definitely surprised.
For Christmas Eve we had a fabulous party. We played Minute to Win It!! Very fun and everyone was such a good sport! Sherri won the cookie game. It was hard work to get it from your forehead to your mouth with out using hands!

John and Taylor shakin the junk in the trunk.
Mase LOVED the chocolate fountain and Taylor Boy was kind enough to show him how to use it.
Cocoa was the cow in the Nativiy Pageant and he was so good at it.
Grandma and Grandpa Evans were Mary and Joseph. They did awesome.Grandpa even had a fake beard held on by double sided tape. I hope they are around next christmas and I promise not to forget baby Jesus!!
Cohen and Denton left a note for Santa. Good thing Cohen can't read:)
We had a pluthera of presents!
Cohen with the new electric car from Uncle Tim.

As always, Tim sewed my stocking shut.
Exhaustion after opening presents.
Once again we rocked the alumni tourney! For the first game we all played together and of course we won. For the second game we got mixed up and Danielle and I were on the same team and again of course we won!
I hit a point of exhaustion but still had to go boxing day shopping and we took our annual picture in Santa's chair.
We then headed home because as always I had to work. It was so much fun and always I can't wait til next year!
